ZebPay Review in India
The first thing that struck me when I was testing ZebPay was: the simplicity of its website. There are so many competitors like Koinex and Coinsecure, but ZebPay has set itself apart with its seamless design.
If you want to know how I go about analyzing and reviewing all the cryptocurrency exchanges, feel free to check out the crypto exchange page.
In this review, I’ll introduce you to ZebPay exchange and discuss how it works, its features and whether it’s right for you.
Pros / Cons
- Lowest trading fees in India
- Accepts INR
- Lightning-fast payments
- Easy to use for beginners
- Extremely safe & secure
- Limited cryptocurrencies
- Monthly membership fee
What is ZebPay
ZebPay is one of the earliest cryptocurrency exchanges in India. Since its inception in 2014, ZebPay has expanded into global markets, including Singapore and Australia. ZebPay is available in more than 160 countries with over 3 million users globally, making it one of the most established cryptocurrency exchanges around.
ZebPay started out as a bitcoin exchange but now offers a wide range of services – from Lightning Network payments to building trading applications on their platform.
Ever since the relaunch in India (March 2020), the ZebPay team has committed to advance the crypto community in India and unleash the full potential of blockchain technology. In a recent message, ZebPay CEO, Rahul Pagidipati highlights their mission:
“We want to help every Indian—not just the wealthy—to own some of this new form of wealth and opportunity.”
ZebPay Exchange, Wallet and Other Services
ZebPay primarily offers three types of services: trading platform (to buy/sell cryptocurrencies), digital wallet (to securely store/transfer crypto), and build platform (to develop crypto applications/bots).
ZebPay’s clutter-free trading platform (exchange) makes it easy for anyone to buy and sell cryptocurrencies. The exchange can be accessed through mobile apps and web applications across a wide range of devices. ZebPay mobile applications are available on iOS and Android platforms.
The seamless interface of the exchange offers users an intuitive experience to learn and explore the trading platform. Not only that, the ZebPay exchange adopts the highest measures of security protocols to ensure that users have a secure trading experience.
ZebPay has a Pro-Trader version of the platform for advanced traders with extended features. This view of the ZebPay platform might seem a bit overwhelming for beginners and less-experienced traders.
ZebPay’s mobile app functions both as an exchange and a crypto wallet.
ZebPay wallet is associated with your ZebPay account and allows you to securely hold your private keys on your mobile device. Since ZebPay stores ~98% of its cryptos in cold wallets, your coins are offline and secure.
In addition, all your transactions between the hold and cold storage wallets are protected by ZebPay’s security protocol, Omnitrixx.
ZebPay recently launched their Build Platform, where developers can create trading bots and other crypto applications for over 3 million users.
You can also build your custom application to buy/sell crypto assets, fetch market data, and any other trading-related use-cases.
How to Use ZebPay
ZebPay has dedicated trading platforms for beginners and advanced traders. Though there are differences in functionalities and features in these two interfaces, the process for setting up an account, adding funds and performing trades are about the same.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to get started with ZebPay.
Creating your ZebPay Account
- Visit ZebPay and click the Sign Up button
- Provide your personal details: Name, mobile number and email address
- Verify your mobile number: Enter the OTP that ZebPay sent you
- Verify your email address: Click the link inside the verification email that ZebPay sent you
Once these two verifications are successful, your account setup is complete. You must then verify your ID to complete your KYC.
- Enter your nationality and country of residence
- Upload your primary documents (for ID verification): Passport/Aadhar (and similar National IDs)
- Upload your secondary documents (for address verification): Bank statement/utility bill/driver’s license/aadhar
- Declare your source of funds and occupation
You may or may not be asked to send in a selfie. If you are not prompted, then your KYC process is completed for now. But if you’re directed to take a picture/video, then upload the selfie.
You will receive an update from ZebPay within a few hours about the verification status of your KYC. ZebPay verification time takes no longer than 24 hours.
When your KYC is verified, you can update your bank details. You can deposit and withdraw fiat currencies with the bank account you provide here.
Once the bank account is linked (and verified) to your ZebPay account, all you need to do is deposit some funds into your account.
How to Deposit in ZebPay
ZebPay supports four payment methods in India to deposit fiat currencies:
- Instant Deposits (IMPS/NEFT/RTGS)
- UPI (Paytm, Phonepe, Tez)
- Bank Transfer
You can find a step-by-step guide for how to deposit in ZebPay for each method on ZebPay’s Beginner Guide.
Now that you have the funds in your ZebPay account, you can finally buy some cryptocurrency!
ZebPay offers a lot of cryptocurrencies, but which one you can buy and sell depends on your location. Users in India can trade BTC, ETH, XRP and 17 other supported cryptocurrencies.
These coins can be directly purchased using fiat currencies (INR, AUD, and EUR) or using any of the supported cryptocurrencies.
ZebPay Deposit Time
ZebPay deposits happen within minutes for all cryptocurrency deposits and most fiat deposits.
However, it might take a day or two for some fiat deposit methods like Netbanking.
How to Receive Bitcoin in ZebPay
ZebPay has made sure that receiving bitcoin (or any other cryptocurrency) from someone doesn’t take more than three clicks.
- Open your ZebPay app and select the coin you want to receive. (In this case, it will be bitcoin.)
- Then, click on the “Receive” button at the bottom of the screen. This will generate an address along with its QR code that lets you receive coins.
- Copy this address and share it with the person sending you bitcoin. Or, you can also simply provide the QR code to the sender.
It’s that simple!
When the payment is received, you will get a notification and will notice your balance increase.
Cryptocurrency wallet transfers complete within minutes of initiation. You can also make instant payments with ZebPay’s Lightning Network.
How to Withdraw Money from ZebPay
In ZebPay, you can withdraw money (also referred to as “cash out”) to the bank account linked with your ZebPay account.
One thing to note when withdrawing money from ZebPay (or any exchange) is that you can’t directly transfer your cryptocurrency to your bank account that holds your fiat currency. Cryptocurrencies can not be withdrawn into a bank account.
If you’ve already exchanged your cryptocurrencies for fiat currency, you can proceed with the withdrawal steps 1-3. But, if you still have your funds in the form of cryptocurrencies, you need to sell them first to convert them to fiat currency.
- Open your ZebPay app and select the “Withdraw” icon from the dashboard.
- Fill out the amount you want to withdraw, and click “Proceed to Withdraw.“
- You will get a pop-up page asking you to verify your bank details. Check the details and enter the PIN to confirm the transaction.
And, that’s it. The money will be credited to your bank account in 1-3 business days.
ZebPay Withdrawal Time
Speed has become a crucial element in digital transactions.
ZebPay withdrawal time is usually on the same day or the next.
ZebPay Deposit & Withdrawal Limits
For Cryptocurrencies (BTC)
ZebPay’s deposit and withdrawal limits vary depending on the type of cryptocurrency.
Here are the latest deposit and withdrawal limits for Bitcoin/BTC in ZebPay.

|Deposit||0.000001 BTC||100 BTC||300||300|

ZebPay Transaction Charges
All cryptocurrency exchanges charge fees from their users. So it is important to analyze if the fee they charge is reasonable.
For an intuitive understanding, I’ve listed the different fee groups that users will come upon in chronological order.
Exchanges charge a membership fee to cover the cost involved to maintain the security infrastructure of their blockchain, wallets and trading platform.
ZebPay charges a 0.0001 BTC per month (~₹100) as membership fees for users in India. This fee is waived for the rest of the world.
The membership fee is only for inactive accounts. So you can avoid this fee by making one trade per month.
ZebPay Deposit Charges
Exchanges normally charge a nominal deposit fee when you want to place your funds on their platform. Deposit fees vary based on the type of deposit method.
In ZebPay, you can deposit cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies.
All crypto deposits are free.
The fiat deposits are free for the following deposit methods: Bank Transfer, UPI and Instant Deposit. But, there’s a 1.77% fee if you choose Net banking as your deposit method.
Trading fees are charged based on the order type.
Trading happens between two parties: the user who sells the cryptocurrency (“maker”) and the user who buys it (“taker”). Both these parties pay a small percentage of the order value in the form of maker fee and taker fee.
ZebPay charges 0.15% for the maker and 0.25% for the taker. These fees are lower for certain trading pairs.
Maker fees are slightly lower than taker fees, as the makers bring liquidity (new trading opportunity) to the exchange.
Note: Average Maker Fees (across exchanges): 0.16%. Average Taker Fees (across exchanges): 0.21%
ZebPay Withdrawal Fees
If you want to withdraw your funds or move them to a different wallet, then the exchange normally charges you a withdrawal fee.
For all fiat withdrawals, ZebPay charges you a flat ₹10 per transaction.
For crypto withdrawals, you have to pay a small withdrawal fee per transaction. This fee varies depending on the cryptocurrency.
Note: Average Withdrawal Fees (across exchanges): 0.00061 BTC (~690 INR)
Is ZebPay Safe?
As a user, it is wise to be skeptical. Hence, it is crucial to know about the security features of any exchange and its compliance with the country’s regulations.
ZebPay uses top-of-the-line safety protocols to secure its platform. Despite the risks surrounding cryptocurrencies, ZebPay has been incident-free since its inception in 2014. They’re one of the few exchanges globally that have never been hacked.
ZebPay’s stress-free trading platform has become a trusted choice for over 3 millions users around the world.
So, is ZebPay safe? The answer is an astounding yes.
Is ZebPay Legal in India?
There has been (and still is) a common misconception of the cryptocurrency landscape in India. This is one of the main reasons why I’m writing this review — to highlight the legitimacy of exchange platforms, among other things.
Following the Supreme Court’s overruling of RBI’s ban on cryptocurrency trading, in May 2020, RBI issued a statement announcing that there is no longer any banking ban on cryptocurrency exchanges, companies, or traders.
Not only is ZebPay legal in India, but they’ve also collaborated with Indian law enforcement on numerous anti-money laundering and fraud investigations. As India’s Bitcoin flag-bearer, ZebPay works with the government in crafting regulatory frameworks for the crypto and blockchain community.
Unlike many other cryptocurrency exchanges that operate in India, ZebPay is indigenous. The localization factor gives them the edge in identifying users’ regional concerns and serve them better.
ZebPay App enables you to trade cryptocurrencies from your mobile.
Their simple yet powerful user interface lets you access the ZebPay exchange platform directly from the app. It’s a great tool to manage your account on the go.
You can register your account, complete your KYC, add your bank account and trade cryptocurrencies – all from the app!
ZebPay app has good reviews on both Google Play (4) and App Store (3.7).
ZebPay Customer Support
ZebPay sure has made it easier for users to clear any doubts they might have with their extensive knowledge base.
If the information archive doesn’t address your clarification, you can raise a New Support Ticket mentioning your query. Once you initiate the ticket, you’ll get dedicated support from one of their support executives.
You can also reach their support team via firstname.lastname@example.org.
ZebPay does not have telephone support that traders can call. However, it looks like they’ll roll out a customer care number shortly.
Conclusion – Is ZebPay For You?
ZebPay is simple and easy to use. The meticulously crafted interface offers an intuitive, stress-free trading experience for crypto enthusiasts. It also helps users to explore, trade, and manage all the crypto assets on the go.
Not only that, there’s usually little to no transaction fee involved – and this is ideal for beginners!
ZebPay’s OTC desk has started attracting many individual and institutional investors. This personalized service is catered to individuals and institutions who are looking to trade in large quantities (5 BTC and above). They also provide expert consultations from setting up corporate accounts to order execution, with trade reporting and market insights.
ZebPay’s Pro-Trader exchange platform has a wide range of high-end features for seasoned traders.
For some advanced traders who want to dabble with other coins, ZebPay’s current pool of cryptocurrencies may seem like a shortcoming. Regardless, I strongly believe that the number of supported coins will only continue to increase as ZebPay intends to grow its user base in India.
That said, ZebPay is one of the best, if not the best cryptocurrency exchanges in India. It is highly secure and great for learning.
Now that you’ve made it to the end of this review, you might have a better understanding of how ZebPay works, its pros, its cons and what it is capable of.
So, do you think ZebPay exchange is for you?
